BROOKS STEVENS DESIGN INTRODUCES "A-Wake". A WIRELESS FAMILY ALARM DESIGNED TO ENHANCE THE GO-TO-BED and GET-UP-AND-GO EXPERIENCE.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. September 13, 2005 - Imagine the chaos the night before school starts. The kids have stayed up late all summer, and now they have to go to bed and wake up early. "What time do I have to get up?" asks the third-grader. "When do I have to be at the bus stop?" says the middle-schooler.
Managing the morning ritual can be difficult and frustrating. The kids forget to set their alarms and oversleep. The power goes out in the middle of the night and no alarms buzz in the morning. But with "Awake," a new family alarm, the go-to-bed, wake-up, and get-ready-for-school/work procedure has never been easier.
"Awake" consist of wireless "parent" and "child" alarm clocks. The "parent" utilizes a miniature base to reduce the overall footprint on the night stand and a removable touch screen "control center", which features a simple touch screen interface to direct users through alarm setup and review for all the alarm clocks in the home. With"Awake," Mom sees if Elizabeth forgot to set her alarm or if Seth set his for the wrong time. Mom makes adjustments before going to bed, confident her children will wake up on time and the morning’s chaos will be reduced.
At the other end, the "child" clock has a basic set of functions, making it easier for kids to set and review alarms before going to bed. If they sleep through an alarm, Mom uses the built-in wireless intercom to remind the kids to "get out of bed!" Additional post wake-up alarms can be set to remind the kids they have 10 minutes, and then 5, before the bus arrives.
"Awake," however, are not just alarm clocks. These devices are wireless, network-able, and the flat-panels display all sorts of information beyond time, alarm, and radio station. It can be configured for personalize backgrounds, to rotate through family photographs, or to show today’s weather.
The a-wake is a conceptual design exploration and not yet scheduled for manufacturing. The concept is owned by Brooks Stevens Design and available for purchase or licensing.
