BSI Lectures Multidisciplinary Engineering Students

Guest Lecture at Marquette University

September 28, 2009
MILWAUKEE, WI – Douglas Carpiaux, Industrial Design Manager and Dan Riley, Principal of our Allenton office,  recently spoke to more than 150 seniors at Marquette University.  The two separate sessions of the Multidisciplinary Capstone Design class were comprised of students from multiple engineering disciplines including Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical, IT, and Computer Science.  These students are currently engaged in team projects that will allow them to directly apply principles discussed during BSI’s lecture.

The lecture commenced with a brief historical perspective of Brooks Stevens’ accomplishments and segued into an overview of our company and its expanded product development capabilities today.  Examples of recent work were referenced to illustrate the essential nature of both cross-disciplinary team interaction and direct observation of the user in their actual environment.  Various techniques and tools were discussed, including group/individual interviews, videotaped interactions, ergonomic mockups, and lifestyle collages.

This is the third year that BSI has presented to this particular class at Marquette University, and contributing to the development of these future product development professionals is something we value highly.  Our appreciation is extended to Drs. Goldberg, Corliss, Cariapa, Kaiser, and Ahamed of Marquette for this continuing opportunity.
